Microsoft CEO hunt to continue till early 2014

It’s been five months since Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer’s tearful farewell to the company he has been in for a long time. Well work at  Microsoft has to go on as the company is actively searching for his replacement and we shall have to wait for the final choice a bit longer. Despite a desire to have a new CEO ready to go by the end of 2013, the company has just admitted that its search will go on for the time being. According to AllThingsD — the company expects its search to be finished in the early part of 2014. Microsoft board member John W. Thompson admitted as much in a blog post released currently.

We identified over 100 possible candidates, talked with several dozen, and then focused our energy intensely on a group of about 20 individuals, all extremely impressive in their own right. As you would expect, as this group has narrowed, we’ve done deeper research and investigation, including with the full Board. We’re moving ahead well, and I expect we’ll complete our work in the early part of 2014.

Thompson notes that  with only two CEO since it began, its clear its hard to have a suitable substitute for Ballmer . As for now we wait for a final decision to come from Redmound early next year.
