There is a lot that the market looks out for in mobile phones, and the interest varies per individual. Some have interest in the camera, some in the battery capacity, while others want something less costly. Among the phone brands available in Uganda is itel, Tecno, Infinix, Samsung, Apple, Fero, Huawei, among others.

At the end of last year, we asked whether Tecno Smartphones will handle the popularity streak in this year and the answer seems to be already transparent as of May. According to the Global Stats results for the Mobile Vendor Market Share in Uganda for April 2019, Tecno holds the largest quota of the share taking up 27.07% of the smartphones held in Uganda.

Tecno is followed by Samsung with a 15.11% share, iPhones with 4.82%, Huawei with 4.67%, and Nokia taking up 3.87%. Infinix, HTC, and LG follow in with 3.39%, 1.89%, and 0.83% respectively. The 2019 Jumia Mobile Report actually reflects close to similar results, indicating a leadership board of Tecno, Samsung, Infinix, Nokia, and Apple over the past year – in regards to brand loyalty.

    What makes Tecno stand out?

Tecno as a brand, according to the consumers, runs on two selling points: affordability and innovation. People love it when premium features known for the high-end smartphones are brought down to mid-range devices at an easy-to-go-with price.

The Jumia report also highlights this while stating that there has been a 50% fall in the average price of smartphones over a span of 3 years, something that can be attributed to the increased need for owning them. Entry-level and mid-range smartphone manufacturers have continued to thrive and capture the market further than the high-end product OEMs.

Additionally, the brand has kept up the battery capacity of its phones, by marketing phones that can last more than a day of use on just a single charge.
