    Mastercard gives MUK USD $1 million towards the efforts to rebuild the Ivory Tower

    Reeta Roy the President and CEO Mastercard Foundation has today written to the Makerere University (MUK) Vice-Chancellor Professor Barnabas Nawangwe and assured him of the foundation’s support and contributed USD $1 million towards the efforts to repair and rebuild the iconic Ivory Tower. She wrote in a letter that Techaja has been privy to that;

    “I was saddened to learn about the fire at Makerere University and the extensive damage to the iconic main building,” she said. “Thankfully, there were no injuries or loss of life. You do not need more challenges during a time you are leading the university and your teams through a global pandemic as well as preparing to receive Medical and final-year students in mid-October. Our hearts go out to you” Reeta added.

    Reeta Roy further assured MUK VC that “We understand that the efforts to repair and rebuild as well as recover records are considerable. To assist with these efforts, the Foundation would like to provide a USD $1 million in support to Makarere University.”

    The Mastercard foundation hopes that contribution expedites the reopening of the university and builds resiliency as Makarere continues to educate our future leaders. My colleague Samuel will be in touch with further details.
