The new kid on the block– Lycamobile Uganda has launched its services during the global corona pandemic but it seems its services especially its unlimited data bundles are throwing most mobile internet users in Ugandans in a frenzy. Some are wondering how long the company will be able to keep up with these low data prices, the speeds of the network, and also the coverage. But the coverage maps show that the company is betting on an aggressive start to launch its services in Uganda.
Lyamobile Uganda is operating several wireless technologies based on 2G and 4G-LTE offering data, voice, SMS, and mobile money coming soon. Before Lyca acquired Tangerine, the company only operated the old CDMA technology and several spectrum wars with Orange Uganda and Smile Communications in 2015 forced the company to switch to 4G-LTE wireless technologies.
This all means that your current mobile phone will be able to work with Lycamobile Uganda’s network. If your SIM isn’t working in your handset but other SIM cards are, it might be an issue with your handset provider; or the mobile phone could be locked, meaning it only accepts SIM cards from a particular service provider. It’s advisable that you contact your handset dealer for more assistance.
The kind of license that Lycamobile Uganda is still unknown as the company never appeared on UCC‘s telecom network list as of 1st April 2020. The company seems to have a PSP- National License that allows them to establish and operate telecommunications services nationally (all defined geographic zones) license and the coverage seems to cover most major towns and highways. From border points like Busia and Mabala, the Jinja-Kampala highway, Kampala-Kabale through Mbarara highway covering some parts of Kisoro and the Katuna border points.

Lycamobile Uganda has several places allover Uganda covered. In the west and south towns include; Masaka, Fortportal, Kasese, Mbarara, Bushenyi, Kabale, Lyantonde, Kyenjojo, Mubende, Mityana, Homia, Masindi and Karuma among others. In the North and Eastern there is Lira, Dokolo, Soroti, Mbale, Busitema, Kumi, Bukedea, Gulu, Nebbi, Arua, Koboko, Kitgum, Nimule, Oraba, Moyo, Jinja, Seeta, Busesa, Iganga, Bugiri, Malaba, Tororo, Lugazi, Nkokonjeru and Mbalala among other towns.
Lycamobile Uganda Kampala coverage

This clearly shows that Lycamobile Uganda is launching itss services aggressively across the country. When it comes to Kampala the dwellers in the area seem to covered but again it shows be noted that network coverage is heavily dependent on location and their network partners. If you still experience network issues it’s advised that you contact their customer Services on 100 from your Lycamobile or +256726100100 from another phone.

When it comes to Lycamobile Uganda’s internet data speeds we are currently doing tests and shall update you as soon as they are available.
