If your communication generally involves a lot of online conversations, read receipts should be a must for you. It cuts across all platforms, from WhatsApp to Facebook messages, from social media to whichever online engagement you may have.
In the era of a connected world, gone are the days when a sent message could only be confirmed as read by a reply from the other end. The times of the e-mail required one to be online every other time to check for a response, while requiring others to take an extra call to the recipient to confirm that they read it.
The new days have changed that. WhatsApp for instance makes it easy to know whether the message you sent was actually received, or even read. That is besides the 1% population who adjust their app settings and make their online activity completely anonymous.
You ought to also know that a recipient can read the message even when it is portrayed as unread. With the availability of message notifications which come in the pop ups on the screen, someone can read your messages without you getting any read receipts.
You’ll only get the read receipt when your friend opens the Messenger app to read your message or views the Facebook messages through the app itself.
