Early this year, Kiira Motors Corporation (KMC) was rumoured to start producing the Kayoola bus before the year comes to an end and these rumours have been confirmed by the corporations CEO, Mr Paul Isaac Musasizi.
He reiterated that they are planning to have these buses hit the road by Christmas of this year and that samples have already hit Ugandan roads in areas of Kisoro and Karamoja, reports the Daily Monitor.
This was all the Office of the Prime Minister where Kiira Motors Corporation was being transferred from the Ministry of Trade to the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation. Previously, it was under the Ugandan Development Corporation which is under the Ministry of Trade.
The buses with an estimated sitting capacity of 65 people are expected to cost around UGX 95M and Ugandans who can’t meet upfront fees will enjoy paying in instalments. He also promised after-sales services to Kiira bus owners offering maintenance on top of other issues that might arise.
The corporation will also venture into pick-ups, trucks and saloon cars to cater for different road users. The firm already has the Kiira EVS saloon car under its banner and it is expected to produce more.
