Jumia Uganda Launches Black Friday 2025 with “Masanyalaze” in it

Jumia Uganda has officially kicked off its Black Friday 2025 campaign, under the theme “E-Commerce Adoption in Uganda – The Journey and Jumia’s Role in Shaping It.” The launch event, held exclusively, brought together government leaders, business partners, and people from Uganda’s online shopping world.

The big news is the campaign called “Masanyalaze – Light Up Your Deals” which runs from October 31st until December 1st. Shoppers can find huge discounts on smartphones, home items, groceries, clothes, and beauty products. Use the Jumia app or website at www.jumia.ug for daily flash sales, fun treasure hunts, and special app-only offers.

This is a way to celebrate how online shopping is growing in Uganda. Mr. Nyombi Thembo, head of the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC), spoke at the event and he praised Jumia for building trust and making shopping easy online.

This year, Jumia is partnering with Airtel Money, Centenary Bank, Hisense, Redmi, and Spiro. These are to help with payments, green deliveries on electric bikes, and more.

Uganda’s online shopping is growing fast thanks to more smartphones, mobile money use, and people feeling safer buying online. With over 34 million active mobile money accounts, more Ugandans can shop without cash. Jumia’s programs like JForce for sellers and Jumia Logistics for deliveries help small businesses reach more customers.

    What they said

Steven Lamony, Managing Director of Jumia Uganda, said: “Black Friday remains one of our most important moments of the year not just for sales, but for connection. It’s a celebration of how far Uganda has come in embracing e-commerce, and how technology continues to empower both consumers and sellers.”

Nyombi Thembo, Executive Director of the UCC, applauded Jumia’s continued investment in building trust, access, and convenience in online trade. He emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts between regulators, private sector players, and innovators to further grow Uganda’s digital economy.

Thembo went on: “Uganda’s e-commerce journey is a testament to the power of innovation and inclusion. As we expand digital access, enhance literacy, and safeguard consumers, we are not just connecting devices—we are connecting dreams, businesses, and futures. Together with partners like Jumia, we are shaping a digital economy that empowers every Ugandan to thrive.”

Why Jumia Black Friday 2025 matters

Black Friday 2025 is not just about cheap items. It helps solve big issues in Uganda’s digital life. Online shopping makes up less than 5% of total retail, but it’s growing. Experts predict the market will hit US$1.88 billion in transactions this year. Yet, problems like spotty internet, low tech skills, and scam fears hold it back. Cyber scams cost Uganda UGX 100 billion a year.

Jumia’s campaign fights these. It builds trust with safe payments and easy apps. With 53% of adults using mobile money – one of Africa’s highest rates – tools like Airtel Money make shopping open to more people.

Uganda has a young population – 78% under 35 – but many lack steady jobs. E-commerce creates work: Over 10,000 delivery riders and 20,000 JForce agents, with 60% women, earn 40% more. Small shops see sales rise 25-35% on platforms like Jumia, adding billions to the economy.

Women run 40% of small businesses but get only 10% of loans. Online sales and credit from buys like Centenary Bank’s can change that, possibly boosting GDP by 2-3%. Green efforts like Spiro’s bikes cut pollution. And with inflation at 5%, deals on basics help families save.

Overall, this grows Africa’s e-commerce to US$5.76 billion by 2033. In Uganda, it bridges gaps in internet access and skills, connecting rural areas and helping everyone join the digital world.
