One of Uganda’s oldest ICT solutions provider, iWayAfrica Uganda, has announced a change in ownership resulting in a name change to Echotel Proprietary Uganda Limited. This acquisition now makes iWayAfrica Uganda part of the Echo Group, ICT services business with extensive experience in supporting multinational companies across the African continent, as well as deep knowledge and experience in building successful operating companies in Africa.

Godfrey Sserwamukoko, Managing Director of iWayAfrica Uganda remains with the operation and commented,
This is an amazing new chapter to our story. In November, we celebrated 25 years of operating in Uganda. Our history started with Wilken Afsat in 1994, then Afsat, later evolving to iWayAfrica Uganda, absorbing AfricaOnline along the way. Joining forces with the Echo Group increases our ability to reach more people, improve our service delivery, offer aggressive Bandwidth speed packages, increase coverage to previously unprofitable areas and maintain our high standards of customer satisfaction that the market has come to expect of us.
Having joined the company in 2001, Sserwamukoko has extensive communications experience and knowledge of Ugandan Market dynamics across the ICT spectrum. HEe Sserwamukoko continued;
We are undertaking a seamless transition to Echo so the process of integrating our businesses will not affect on-going service provision. With Echo’s backing and pan-African reach, we have the opportunity to expand our operation even further locally. We are working to bring the Ugandan market even more service offerings and look forward to unveiling our new brand and portfolio in 2020.
Jacques Rautenbach, the Chief Executive Officer of Echo International, added that the expanded geographic footprint means that their clients operating on the continent have the reassurance of their ability to execute and support their businesses on the ground across Africa. Additionally, the Group can provide commercial agreements that consider local currencies along with centralized planning, governance and service management. She said that Echo Group can also leverage Echo’s product investments, group skills and consultative approach to design, which means clients in each country will have a much wider portfolio of services to choose from.”
