Apple recently announced the upcoming release of iOS 17, the latest version of its operating system for iPhones. While this news brings excitement and anticipation, it also comes with some exclusivity. Not all iPhones will be eligible for the iOS 17 upgrade, leaving older devices behind.

This means that the iPhone XS, XS Max, and XR will be the oldest devices eligible for iOS 17 when it becomes available later this year. However, it’s important to note that not all features will be available on these older devices.
Significant Additions
Every smartphone eligible for iOS 17 will receive some significant additions. These include new design-driven contact cards, a StandBy display mode for quick information while charging, and a Check In feature that allows you to notify someone when you arrive home safely.
However, certain features will be reserved for newer iPhones. For instance, gesture-based reactions with augmented reality effects in FaceTime will require an iPhone 12 or newer.
Moreover, specific improvements to autocorrect and in-line autocomplete suggestions on the keyboard will be exclusive to the iPhone 12 or newer models. Additionally, there is a new accessibility feature called Point and Speak, which assists individuals with vision disabilities in interacting with text in their environment. Unfortunately, this feature will only be available on the Pro models of the iPhone 12, 13, and 14.

List of iPhones Eligible for iOS 17
If you are still holding onto an iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, or iPhone X, you will not be able to update to iOS 17. To install the new operating system, your iPhone must have an A12 Bionic chip or a later version. However, if you own an iPhone XR, XS, XS Max, iPhone SE (2nd generation), or a newer model, you will have access to features such as Live Voicemail transcripts, the StandBy display mode, and improved autocorrect.
