You can look at it like a localized version of YouTube. With Youtube being the 2nd most visited website in Uganda according to Alexa, its clear that MTN sees this as an opportunity.

MTN Uganda launched their new video streaming platform yesterday with an aim of supporting local content.  The company believes that Ugandans yearn to stream and download video content from both local and international channels and thats the whole aim of launching MTNShortz.

Introduced as an add-on feature for the MTN Pulse platform. MTN Shortz is more of an Africa and Uganda only content platform. MTN charges around UGX 200 to UGX 1,000, for users to be able to watch and subscribe to any channel on the platform.

How Content providers will benefit from the new MTNShortz portal

Given the strict Ad regulations and policies by Youtube. Many content providers have always found it hard to benefit from their published content since it requires them to have over 1,000 subscribers and lots viewers on their channels. Well, the new Shortz portal will give content providers a chance to benefit from their 10 minute content videos since pulse subscribers will have to pay a small commission to support the content creators.

Content piracy and infringements will be no more as the creators now have full rights and tight policies guiding them implying all content must be original between channels. Otherwise, the MTN Shortz platform is more of the new Ugandan based Youtube version.
