Infinix finally launched its first notched smartphone, the Infinix S3X in Uganda. Below, we share Infinix S3X first impressions. The company is hyping a lot about the notched full view display, AI low light selfie camera features and dual rear cameras of this recently launched smartphone. It’s an upgrade to the 20MP selfie camera Infinix S3X.
After the high-profile launches of the Infinix Note 5, Infinix S3, and the Hot 6 and Hot 6 Pro, Infinix saved time to embrace the notch with its fifth launch of the year. The Infinix S3X is the new flagship Hot S device, arguably the hottest Hot S device ever.
It features a glass-like plastic and poly-carbonate body, AI-enhanced cameras, a 19:9 display with a notch, and Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box. Infinix S3X price in Uganda has been set at UGX 715,000 for the variant with 3GB of RAM and 32GB inbuilt storage, the only model available in Uganda. We got to spend some time with Infinix’s latest smartphone after the launch, and here are our first impressions.
Infinix S3X First impressions
Design
Infinix S3X is a pretty-looking phone, one of the best offered by Infinix Mobility. The S3X comes with polycarbonate rim with a very glossy rear panel. The rear panel has curved edges and is also a fingerprint magnet. The back panel consists of the dual camera with LED flash, fingerprint sensor and Infinix branding.

The display has a notch but it’s not an edge-to-edge display. The device’s display has curved corners and thin bezels. However, a lot of space is wasted at the bottom chin. Overall, we felt the design offered something great for its price tag. Infinix doesn’t disappoint with the design, and the S3X is elegant. However, cleaning the fingerprint grabbing rear panel becomes tedious.
Display and the Notch
The display is one of the major selling points of the S3X. This is the first smartphone of the company to come with an iPhone X-like notch screen. The notch houses the speaker grill, the selfie camera and other sensors. The smartphone features a 6.2” HD+ notched full view display with a 19:9 aspect ratio. We found the display quite vibrant and sharp. Color reproduction is also above average. We also didn’t notice any issues with the viewing angles and the sunlight visibility was also satisfactory.
Hardware and Performance
Talking about the hardware specifications, the Infinix S3X is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor paired with 3GB of RAM. The smartphone has 32GB internal storage. The device comes with dual SIM functionality with a dedicated microSD slot.

The battery is an elephantine 4000mAh unit with support for Fast Charging. After a few hours with the smartphone, we found the performance to be quite good. We didn’t observe any lags during app switching and the gaming experience too was smooth.
Software
The S3X runs on Android 8.1.0 Oreo with Hummingbird XOS3.3 Lite interface of the company. Even with the layer of customization, the smartphone works fine without any visible lags. However, the user interface isn’t as clean as that found on the Android One Infinix Note 5. Nonetheless, it’s still smooth and user-friendly.
Cameras
Another high point of the Infinix S3X smartphone is its cameras. The smartphone features a dual rear camera setup consisting of 13MP primary camera with and a 2MP secondary camera. The front has a 16MP fixed focus camera. The company claims that the selfie camera is powered by AI for better looking selfies. However, we shall put this claim to the test as we spend more waking days with the Infinix S3X. In our brief testing we found the camera results to be OK and not that great. However, we our yet to test the camera properly so for the final verdict do read our complete review.
Our thoughts
Given the price, the S3X will compete against the Infinix Note 5 and the Tecno Camon X smartphones. On the surface, it seems to be a capable smartphone. But to know how the S3X performs in real life, you’ll have to wait for our full review which is coming up soon. However, you can check out the S3X at all Infinix branded stores countrywide.
