In a world where digital transformation is rapidly changing the way we live, work, and communicate, Huawei Technologies has taken a significant step in Uganda. The tech industry leader has launched the DigiTruck in the Teso Sub-region, a move that promises to bring a digital revolution to the eastern part of the country.
This initiative is designed to provide digital skills to various groups, including the youth, farmers, and local district officers. The primary objective is to empower these individuals to delve into e-commerce, allowing them to market their produce more effectively.
The digital age has brought about countless opportunities, especially for those in the informal sector. The Vice President emphasized that the DigiTruck project aims to offer sustainable livelihood opportunities for this sector.
By enabling small business owners to participate in both regional and national trade, they can tap into a larger market, boosting their income and improving their quality of life. Furthermore, the Vice President highlighted the importance of digital transformation as a pivotal driver for human capital development.

H.E Jessica Alupo, Vice President of Uganda praised Huawei for making ICT accessible to everyone, regardless of age or profession. She emphasized the importance of sharing the acquired skills to create a ripple effect of knowledge and empowerment.
The Vice President also recognized Huawei Uganda as a crucial partner in the nation’s transformation journey, appreciating their efforts in building smart infrastructure, especially in the education sector.
Mr. Ebittu James, Representative for Hon. Amongi Betty, Minister of Gender, Labor, and Social Development reiterated the government’s commitment to digital inclusion, gender equality, labor empowerment, and social development.
He assured that the ministry would continue to support and create an environment conducive to the successful implementation of the DigiTruck project. He also expressed gratitude to Huawei Technologies Uganda for their unwavering support and dedication.
Gao Jian, Deputy Managing Director, Huawei Technologies Uganda shed light on the broader vision of the project, stating that it’s a part of the global Huawei TECH4ALL initiative. He proudly shared that the DigiTruck has already trained over 1,500 Ugandans in various rural areas.
With its current presence in the Teso sub-region, the project aims to train an additional 600 Ugandans over the next two months. Gao Jian urged beneficiaries to leverage their new skills for e-commerce and job opportunities.
