Huawei launches Honor 20 amidst US ban. Here are the specs

We have yet another hole punch smartphone on the market, and it is the Honor 20 – a Huawei product! Days before the phone’s launch, we told you that Google had revoked Huawei’s Android license followed by a number of other companies, though the U.S. Government has given Huawei a 3-month temporary license.

The Honor 20 comes in two variants, a standard and Pro, which both have 4 cameras on the rear with the Pro model having a slightly better camera setup. The 3D curved glass back of the handset employs Honor’s Dynamic Holographic Design, which creates a “depth-inducing” optical effect.

Both phones have a 6.26-inch All-view IPS LCD with a 4.5mm hole punch fitted on the top-left corner of the display. The 32MP front camera on the Honor 20 and Honor 20 Pro is located where the hole punch is located.

When we look at performance, the Honor 20 and Honor 20 Pro pack a 7nm HiSilicon Kirin 980 SoC. The CPU has 2 ARM Cortex-A76 cores running at 2.60GHz, 2 ARM Cortex-A76 cores running at 1.92GHz, and 4 ARM Cortex-A55 cores running at 1.80GHz. The GPU is ARM’s Mali-G76MP10.

The Honor 20 series come with a single speaker, with no 3.5mm headphone jack, but with the USB Type-C port and up-to-date Bluetooth, which supports the device’s Virtual 9.1 Surround Sound for quality audio. Both smartphones are shipping with the custom software they are calling “Magic UI 2.1” based on Android Pie. Magic UI 2.1 is actually EMUI 9.1 though with a different name.

The phones will be available in Midnight Black and Safari Blue colors for the base model and Phantom Blue and Phantom Black colors for the Pro model. The standard version is likely to start at a cost 499 Euros while the Pro will cost a base price of 599 Euros.

Does the Huawei ban apply to Honor phones?

Honor operates as an independent brand, though under the Huawei Consumer Business Group. It is not yet clear whether the restrictions imposed on Huawei products do apply to Honor smartphones as well. Otherwise, it is still a doubt that the device will get any Google updates or favorable market in the US.
