At a time when boda bodas are not allowed to carry passengers, we all know it’s not easy to be away from friends and family. The ride-sharing company recently launched its package delivery service. With Uber connect, you can send items from your home to relatives, friends, or clients. This can range from some much-needed groceries, clothes, or cleaning supplies, let your loved ones know you’re there for them with a care package.
Packages sent using Uber Connect must total less than the equivalent of UGX 190 000 in value per trip, they must be less than 15 kilograms, and fit comfortably on the topbox of a motorbike.

Prohibited items include but are not limited to;
- Illegal items;
- Firearms, weaponry, and their parts
- Alcohol
- Highly perishable food or beverages (e.g., raw meat or dairy products), pharmaceutical products, over-the-counter medications, vitamins or supplements
- Recreational drugs, drug paraphernalia, or tobacco products;
- Money, gift cards, lottery tickets or transferable securities
- Dangerous or hazardous items, including explosives, items that are poisonous or flammable, medical waste, and other dangerous or hazardous items as described in the applicable regulations
- Stolen goods
- Fragile items;
- Letters and postal articles.
Uber retains the discretion to prohibit additional items from time to time. It is your responsibility to ensure that you have checked the current list of Prohibited Items each time you use the Uber Connect request option. If the recipient is not available to receive the package, the driver may contact you to resolve the issue. Uber does not maintain insurance coverage for package loss, damage, or theft.
To use this service, tap Connect in the Uber Rider app to send your loved ones a ‘no contact’ delivery.
How it Uber connect works
1. Select Connect in the Uber app, agree to the terms and conditions, confirm that your package does not contain prohibited items, and request a delivery.
2. Reply to the message you’ll receive in the Uber app asking for the recipient’s name and any special delivery instructions for your driver.
3. Meet the driver-partner outside and load your package onto their motorbike.
4. Share the trip with your recipient so they can track the trip and meet the driver outside to retrieve the package from the driver.
It should be noted that Uber Connect will be made available by Uber on a temporary basis. The company says that in its sole discretion, they could terminate the Connect Terms or discontinue Uber Connect at any time by giving you reasonable advance notice in writing.
