With the advent of technology, there is no more need to own a Post Office BOX number in order to receive your package. All you need is your mobile phone number. More Ugandans are now shopping online (AMAZON, Ali Express, Alibaba, eBay, etc) and also opting for a cheaper alternative of shipping like using Posta Uganda’s private bag section.
The issue has always been the ability to track your package or goods as they transition from one country to another until they are delivered. And using a Universal postal Union service like Global Track trace would be the best option as it helps track any package which is destined to Uganda to the post office.

We have tried out this service and ordered over 10 items on Ali Express and eBay and they never disappointed. In order to use the tracking effectively, you must get your tracking number from the seller and it should be in the format; EE15080001XCH, LE142565858US, CP225658529NL. The last two letters usually represent the country of origin of the package. After entering the tracking number check the last event, for example, our package below is still held up by customs as of writing this post. It however shows a wrong destination country but the second example below shows the correct destination country

This is not a fast shipping service so packages usually take a long time in transit. Once it arrives you will receive an SMS from Posta Uganda informing you that your package has arrived and ready to be picked up from the Private Bag section. You will mostly like to have to part with a handling fee where applicable. See the SMS sample below. Please don’t forget to go with any form of identification when you go to collect your parcel. It should be noted that they also offer delivery at an extra cost.
