The timing couldn’t have been right for Standard Chartered Bank to softly launch its digital debit card than now, during the COVID-19 period, when most people are shopping online and avoiding as much physical contact with others as possible.
Through its SC App, StanChart added the My Digital Debit Card(s) option just below the credit balance line. The cards can allow anyone to do online transactions, pay for goods & services among other cards are used for.
Below is how to create one provided you have the SC app already downloaded on your smartphone.
- Step 1: Login into your SC App either through using your username & password or the biometric login options.
- Step 2: Select My Digital Debit Card(s) to prompt the One Time Password (OPT) that will be sent to your registered mobile number.
- Step 3: Input the OTP number, click submit to access your virtual debit card(s)
Currently, Standard Chartered provides 2 cards, each with its own unique card number and card verification value(CVV) number with options of copying the respective numbers and blocking any of the cards should you wish to.
These cards are different from the physical StanChart issued card you’re currently holding. Aside from the aesthetics and card name, the card number and CVV are all different.

Visa powers the card, but this could be so since it powers my current card. Therefore, your account type will most likely determine what kind of card is issued to you with a validity of 2 years as of this writing.
The only comparable card is MTN’s MoMo Card that is currently powered by Mastercard only that its validity is just 30 days.
