How MTN MoMo is making education more accessible and affordable

MTN MoMo is once again making education more accessible and affordable for parents and guardians across Uganda through the 2025 School Fees Campaign, where 25 lucky winners will receive a full year’s worth of school fees simply by paying through MTN MoMo.

Following the success of last year’s campaign—where over 900,000 parents and guardians used MoMo to pay school fees, driving an increase in transactions compared to 2023—this year’s initiative is even bigger.

It underscores MTN MoMo’s commitment to making financial security accessible to all Ugandans by ensuring that every customer has the financial tools they need right at their fingertips.

MTN MoMo: A smarter way to pay school fees

MTN MoMo continues to provide Ugandan families with a fast, secure, and affordable way to manage school payments. With advantages such as:

    • Cost: Affordable transaction costs compared to traditional payment methods.
    • Speed: Instant transactions—schools receive funds in minutes rather than days or weeks.
    • Flexibility: Pay school fees from anywhere, at any time.
    • Trust: The system ensures a digital paper trail via the student number and now includes receipt generation for added security.

This campaign reinforces MTN MoMo’s mission to ease financial burdens, drive digital inclusion, and reward customers for embracing modern payment solutions.

One of the standout winners is Scovia Muhonjerwa, who won a full year’s worth of school fees for her son, Shema Samuel, a Senior 3 student at Midland High School Kawempe. This handover event took place at the school’s administrative grounds, with minimal disruption to school activities.

Throughout February and March, MTN MoMo will continue hosting similar regional handovers, celebrating the 25 winners and amplifying the impact of digital payments in Uganda’s education sector.

    Inspiring stories from last year

Last year’s campaign saw emotional and inspiring stories emerge, such as Neema Yarami, a mother and farmer in a refugee settlement in Arua District, Northern Uganda. She won school fees for her daughter at Future Foundation School and was overwhelmed with gratitude, emphasizing that MTN MoMo’s support transcends background or status, truly embodying inclusivity and empowerment.

“I never imagined being selected for such a reward,” she shared. “As a refugee, opportunities like these are open to us, and MTN MoMo has truly changed my perspective.”

Neema’s story is just one among many that showcased the campaign’s far-reaching impact. Parents expressed disbelief and gratitude for the timely support, highlighting how it eased their financial burdens and allowed them to focus on other priorities.

    Bridging educational gaps

As Uganda continues to navigate challenges in its education sector, initiatives like MTN MoMo’s School Fees Campaign play a critical role in bridging gaps that hinder access to quality education. By simplifying payment processes and providing financial incentives for families, MTN MoMo is not only supporting individual households but also contributing to the broader goal of educational equity across the nation.

In a country where educational expenses can be overwhelming for many families, MTN MoMo’s approach represents a significant shift towards embracing technology as a means of fostering inclusivity and empowerment in education.
