Here is why the #10YearChallenge is a big hit on social media

Three things rule the world of social media: Trends, Challenges, and Hashtags. As long as something is trending, and probably one person challenges another to try it out, and that has a hashtag attached to it; you’ll only watch it spread over and over ther world.

If at all you’ve spent any time on social media since 2019 began, you should have noticed a trend where users are actively posting their then-and-now profile pictures, with most surfacing from 2009 and 2019 respectively.

All you have to do is share two side by side photographs of you ten years apart, then post it to your social media account with the hashtag #10YearChallenge. Some people, though, are choosing to post a single throwback shot.

This has excited many users, from various walks of life, and has kept many busy digging up the best they can post. Celebrities alike have not been left out, with most of these defining how far they have had to come to reach where you know them from.

Why is the #10YearChallenge a big hit?

The challenge has been taken over by celebrities, and it is no doubt that these are the rulers of social media, whether in like or hate.

Unlike most of the challenges that are brought to prove prowess, and to show love for each other; this is one of the best ways to showcase growth over 10 years. You don’t have to make a big party to celebrate succeeding in a decade, when you can attach two photos to prove so.

Secondly, whereas the challenge is a reality checker for individual age and progress, some meme generators are as well using the opportunities to make fun of those that they find without change. One of the trending memes involves reknown Ugandan TV presenter MC Kats.

Another is of American actor Morgan Freeman, which tries to depict that he doesn’t change over the years.

Among the celebrity posts include that of Jennifer Lopez, who posted her memory of 2008 on Twitter when she was pregnant with her twins Maximilian and Emme, with a side photo of 10 years later with no sight of the post-baby body.
