    Govt working on a Boda Boda app

    Following the recent, gazetting of Boda Boda Freezone in Kampala, the government is with the ICT ministry to develop a Boda app called Travel App. This app will be used by all riders in the registration process which is part of the new requirements.

    The Boda Boda Free Zone will run along the following boundaries;

    • Wampewo Roundabout
    • Jinja Road to Kitgum House junction
    • Access Road
    • Mukwano Road to Clock Tower
    • Kafumbe Mukasa Road
    • Kisenyi Road
    • Mackay Road- Kyaggwe Road
    • Watoto Church-Bombo Road
    • Wandegeya
    • Hajji Musa Kasule Road
    • Mulago roundabout
    • Kamwokya junction
    • Sturrock Road
    • Prince Charles Drive
    • Lugogo Bypass–Jinja Road- Wampewo Roundabout.

    The Boda Boda app comes to complement the already existing ride-sharing companies like Uber, SafeBoda and Taxify will share registration information with the government. It should also be noted that all Boba Bodas have been given sixty (60) days to register with KCCA.

    Registration of an operator at any gazetted boda boda stage of choice is free. Non-commercial motorcycles, utility service motorcycles and goods on delivery motorcycles shall register with Ministry of Works & Transportation upon which they will receive a special permit to access the free zone.

    The government is still urging all Boda Boda riders to observe SOPs like wearing face masks and sanitizing themselves and passengers. The boda boda free zone will commence on 1st November.
