GOGO Electric, formerly known as Bodawerk, is among one of seventeen outstanding organizations delivering innovative climate solutions that have reached the finals of the prestigious 2024 Ashden Awards.
Over 500 organizations applied for the 2024 Ashden Awards, and GOGO Electric is one of just two finalists in the category of Powering Futures in Clean Energy after a rigorous assessment and selection by panels of expert judges including academics, investors, civil society leaders, and journalists.
Award winners will be announced at a ceremony on 27 June 2024, during London Climate Action Week.
GOGO, operating in Uganda, implements the transformative Development of Relevant and Innovative Vocational Skills in e-mobility (DRIVe) project. Our focus is on enhancing the employability and skills of professionals in the e-mobility sector, contributing to Uganda’s shift towards renewable energy in transportation. This past year marked significant progress, with our training programs reaching individuals across managerial, technician, and motorcycle taxi operator categories. Our approach has fostered the development and dissemination of practice-based curricula, promoting knowledge sharing within the industry.
The DRIVe project, funded by the Governments of Norway and Germany and implemented in collaboration with GIZ, Bodawerk, and Uganda’s Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development, has also contributed data to a BMZ-funded pilot framework by the International Labor Organization (ILO) for evaluating green jobs.
Being finalists in the 2024 Ashden Awards underscores the impact of our work and its global relevance. This recognition is a milestone for GOGO, affirming our contributions to the e-mobility sector and motivating us to continue our efforts towards a sustainable future.
In conversation with the project manager, Bakhita Claire, she expressed, “We are honoured to be a finalist for the Ashden Award with the DRIVe project. This recognition is an acknowledgment of our collective efforts in bridging skills gaps in the e-mobility sector, driving positive change for a greener, more sustainable future in the transport and energy sector in Uganda.”
Ashden, a UK charity, has been spotlighting transformative climate solutions for more than 20 years through its prestigious Awards scheme.
