There is no doubt that Netflix is the most used video streaming service globally. Amazon Prime Video is also a great alternative to Netflix but it has one major downside — geo-restrictions. This means you cannot be able to watch Amazon media content unless the service detects you are based in a location where it’s acceptable. No need to worry, here all the things you need to know about video streaming service.
1. Get an Amazon Account
Just as expected you cannot use Amazon Prime Video if you are located in Uganda, Kenya, or Nigeria, but all hope is not lost all you need is to sign-up for an Amazon account. You do not need to have an Amazon Prime membership to use Prime Video. You will have to use your VISA or Mastercard to pay for the UGX 49,000 ($12.99 ) a month or UGX 443k ($120) a year.

2. Get A VPN
On top of the an Amazon account, get a VPN to by-pass geo-restrictions. You can get access to any VPN service provider you like but we recommend a paid VPN as they tend to be more secure. You can get a VPN app from the Google Play store.

We recommend a VPN that can tunnel your connection through UAE, USA, UK, or South Africa. Please note that in order to enjoy the benefits of Amazon Prime Video you must always have your VPN on.
3. Get a Supported device

- Smart TVs with the Prime Video App include: Sony, Samsung, Panasonic, LG, Vizio, Hisense, Philips, Sharp, JVC, TCL, Konka, Insignia, Skyworth, Changhong, and Haier.
- Amazon Devices with the Prime Video App include Fire TV/Fire TV Stick, Echo devices with a screen (such as Echo Show, Echo Spot), Fire Tablet and Fire Phone
- Mobile Devices: All Android and iOS smartphones
- Games Consoles: Sony PlayStation 3, Sony PlayStation 4, Microsoft Xbox One and Microsoft Xbox 360
- Blu-Ray Players: LG, Panasonic, Samsung, and Sony
- Set-Top Boxes and Media Players: Google Chromecast, Cox Contour, Nvidia Shield, Roku, Prime Video VR for Oculus, Tivo, Apple TV
- Supported Browsers: Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Internet Explorer, Microsoft Edge, Safari and Opera.
4. How to install Prime Video on your devices
The Prime Video app is available on a range of televisions, Amazon devices, mobile devices, Blu-ray players, games consoles and streaming media devices.
- Open your device’s app store to download and install the Prime Video app.
- Open the Prime Video app.
- Register your device – select Sign in and Start Watching and enter your Amazon account information. Alternatively select Register on the Amazon website, where you are given a code to enter.
5. How to set up Amazon Prime Video PIN
Fire TV devices, Fire Phones, and Microsoft Xbox 360 consoles have their own Parental Control settings.
- On a PC or Mac, go to Prime Video Settings – Parental Controls.
- On the Prime Video app for iOS, select My Stuff from the bottom menu, then select the Settings icon. From there, select Parental Controls then Change Prime Video PIN.
- On the Prime Video app for Android, select My Stuff from the bottom menu, then select the Settings icon. From there, select Parental Controls, then Change Prime Video PIN.
- Enter a PIN, then click Save. Note: Prime Video PINs only apply to the device they were set up for. Setting or changing your Prime Video PIN in the Prime Video app for Android or iOS does not automatically enable or disable PIN on Purchase settings. To turn PIN on Purchase on or off, go to Prime Video Settings – Parental Controls – Purchase restrictions apply across all devices registered to a Prime Video account while viewing restrictions apply only to the devices you have selected in Prime Video Settings – Parental Controls.
6. How to set up Restrictions
Prime Video restrictions allow you to limit playback of content on Prime Video devices. The following devices have their own Parental Control settings: Fire TV devices, Fire Tablets, Fire Phones, and Microsoft Xbox 360 consoles. To set up restrictions follow the following instructions;
- On a PC or Mac, go to Prime Video Settings – Parental Controls.
- On the Prime Video app for iOS, select My Stuff from the bottom menu, then select the Settings icon. From there, select Parental Controls, then Viewing Restrictions.
- On the Prime Video app for Android, select My Stuff from the bottom menu, then select the Settings icon. From there, select Parental Controls, then Viewing Restrictions.
- Select an age restriction and the Devices you want them to apply to, then click Save. Note: Restrictions only apply to the device they were set up for.
7. Why you have to Pay for Some Titles?

Some titles are available to purchase or rent for an extra charge in addition to any titles you may have access to with your Amazon Prime or Prime Video membership. You can also opt to make an in-app subscription to other channels like STARZ, HBO, BET+, CBS All Access, epix, IMDB TV, MTV HITs ShowTime, CineMax, and many more.
Purchases from the Prime Video store that are not Included with Prime are automatically charged to a 1-Click payment method. As soon as the order completes, purchases are available to view in your Purchases & Rentals.

8. Canceling your Prime Video subscriptions
Cancel your Prime Video Channel subscriptions online.
- Go to Manage Your Prime Video Channels.
- Under Prime Video Channels, find the subscription you want to cancel.
- Select Cancel Channel and confirm.
Your subscription end date displays on the confirmation screen. You are able to reverse your cancellation until that date. After the end date, you won’t be charged for, nor have access to content from that channel. Canceling a subscription does not generate a refund for any previous subscription charges.
You need an Amazon Prime membership to access Prime Video Channels. If you cancel your Amazon Prime membership, your Prime Video Channel subscriptions also cancel.
