Online career development platform Fuzu, is marking its first year anniversary since the company’s launch in Uganda. The platform was unveiled in Uganda exactly a year ago making it the second country, having been initially founded in Kenya in 2015.
According to the Fuzu Country Manager, Alvin Katto, the brand has managed to triple the number of Ugandan users on the platform from approximately 20,000 users to close to 70,000 currently since the official launch last year.
“Our mission and the reason we wake up and come to work every morning is to build a platform that allows people to unlock their full potential and in doing so achieve fulfilling careers. Fuzu is not just a job board but is a personalized career companion that supports its users at every stage of their career. This is why we have been able and continue to grow so fast with very minimal marketing.”
You can not underestimate Fuzu’s success over the past 12 months, having worked closely with a number of top companies in Uganda to link them to employees for the jobs they are hiring. Some of the big names they have worked with include Jumia, Safeboda, Mercy Corps, ICEA Life Assurance, and Tugende.
The platform has an AI based recommendation engine which attracts relevant candidates to listed positions. Additionally, the site also utilizes ‘CV, psychometric and aptitude analytics’ to shortlist and qualify candidates which saves companies 80% of the time they would have taken to sort them.
Milestones over the year
In September last year, Fuzu celebrated reaching 500,000 active users across Uganda and Kenya with a campaign dubbed the Fuzu Party Week where all registered users were given prizes for being a part of the company’s community.
In January this year, the company revamped their website to improve the user experience for career builders and job seekers. Mr. Katto says that the website revamp enhanced users’ experience by placing content that is most valuable to them at the forefront. This gives users immediate access to blogs, courses and jobs that are most relevant to them.
The brand also recently partnered with the ICTAU and Federation of Uganda Employers to offer free trials to all their members to make use of the platform.
To celebrate the one year anniversary, Fuzu has partnered with Jumia to offer their users discount vouchers starting from UGX 20,000. Users will receive an email with the voucher code that will be valid until the end of the month.
Mr. Katto stated that the company hopes “to impact the lives of millions more people in Uganda and across Africa.”
How Fuzu works
With an account on the platform, Job seekers can upload their CVs on the platform and also specify their career field of interest. They can then be notified on opportunities available based on their career. In addition, the platform also offers personal training and career path enrichment through free online courses and tests of one’s field of interest.
Organizations, too, can post job opportunities available on the platform which are automatically advertised to the target job seekers through Artificial Intelligence. When potential employees send in their applications, Fuzu then provides shortlists of qualified candidates for the employer from which they can accept or reject.
