The ICT Ministry has collaborated with CITZ to launch ePosta system. All of the 80,000 physical post office boxes in Uganda will still be accessible, but now the government is launching a digital or ePosta address to make it for Ugandans easy to monitor on the phone. The government wants to harmonize information on the physical box and the e-postal address as well.

Under sections 115 and section 116 of the companies act, it is a requirement for all companies to acquire and declare a valid Post Office (P.O) Box address prior to registration in Uganda.

While addressing the press at the media center According to the ICT Minister Judith Nabakooba said; “I am guided that the same requirement has been extended to filing annual returns at the national agency which is URSB. Which is going to be a game-changer. Everyone in Uganda can be in a position to have a postal address, previously it was very difficult because of the presence of the physical boxes, and even the cost of getting one every year was a little bit higher for the local person because the cost was about UGX 80,000”.

Right now Ugandans can get an ePosta address at only UGX 20,000 per year. This has been done to ensure that even small businesses in the villages and farmers who want to market their products don’t get left out. Users will be able to pay using mobile money services.
