DStv Uganda bouquet prices effective 1st April 2024

Almost every other turn of the year, a price increase from Multichoice, the parent company of DStv Uganda and lower tier GOtv Uganda, is certain. The most recent adjustment happened about this time last year, and we took off time to explain some of the possible reasons for this consistent hike in the pricing.

In a rather different route, away from the usual public announcements, Multichoice decided to send the price increment notice directly to the customers via text message. It is based on this that we have tabulated the overall changes in the pricing for you.

What are the new DStv Uganda prices?

The new DStv Uganda package pricing effective 1st April 2024 is as follows:

    PackageOld Price (UGX)New Price (UGX)
    DStv Lumba16,00016,000
    DStv Access43,00045,000
    DStv Family64,00069,000
    DStv Compact104,000110,000
    DStv Compact Plus160,000170,000
    DStv Premium275,000290,000

As usual, the price increment has led many customers to question why the company keeps raising its prices and whether it’s still worth subscribing to the service. Some have gone ahead to issue quit threats as well as seeking the intervention of regulators, including the Uganda Communications Commission, in that regard.

    Slashed decoder pricing

Before the bouquet pricing went uphill, MultiChoice Uganda had just unveiled a limited-time offer for its customers. The company has reduced the price of the DStv Uganda decoder-only from UGX 95,000 to an unbeatable UGX 69,000.

This is valid until March 31, 2024, providing an opportunity for individuals and families to start on with DStv — given the offer comes with a month’s subscription to the Access package.

    Possible Alternatives

If someone finds DStv or even GOtv expensive, there are several alternatives available.

One option is to consider local pay TV providers that offer more localized content at lower prices. Another option is to consider streaming services like Netflix or Amazon Prime Video, which offer a broad range of international and local content at lower prices.

Additionally, free-to-air TV channels and digital terrestrial TV (DTT) services are becoming more widely available, offering access to a range of local and international channels at no cost or low cost.
