In the light of a proper Facebook account without any temporary locks, you don’t need a sim card as well.
So, a sim card only helps you to receive authentication codes from WhatsApp and Facebook and may provide you with an internet connection for access to these services. Other than that, you can trash your WhatsApp number and use the rival network for internet access instead on your smartphone in case you wish to.
