Do you really need a SIM card in your phone to access Whatsapp or Facebook?

Accessing your WhatsApp or Facebook account with a SIM card is one section of drama we’ve witnessed for some time now. While many users think these apps can’t work without a specific sim card in the chamber, the SIM card has its own functions different from the dual over the top (OTT) services.

    Where you need a Simcard

With the price of data packages going low every time a competing telco unveils a new offer, owning a specific sim card is no longer important but instead multi-tasking through all networks for a good offer when you really need it is what most users opt for. A SIM card in your phone is only useful for data access and maybe to make calls or send messages.

If you own a Mi-Fi router, then you partially need a SIM card for just making calls and sending messages on your phone and not needed for any social apps to work. If it wasn’t for a data connection with your sim card, your sim can as well have a perfect place in a feature phone while your social accounts are registered on the smart device.

Is a SIM card necessary to access WhatsApp or Facebook

NO! A sim card is technologically unnecessary for you to access your WhatsApp or Facebook account except when its what you use for data access. As long as your phone has a stable internet connection, you don’t need the SIM card at all now that an internet gateway is already established through a Wi-Fi connection.

The core use of a SIM card to access WhatsApp is only during registration of your account and maybe when you wish to change a number since you receive an SMS with a specific authentication code. In the light of a proper Facebook account without any temporary locks, you don’t need a sim card as well.

So, a sim card only helps you to receive authentication codes from WhatsApp and Facebook and may provide you with an internet connection for access to these services. Other than that, you can trash your WhatsApp number and use the rival network for internet access instead on your smartphone in case you wish to.
