Techjaja is making 6 years. An awesome journey it has been to reach this milestone but it couldn’t be what it is today without certain people. Some of whom you might be knowing while others will surprise you.
Techjaja has been a breeding ground for some of the best brains in tech journalism but as with every story, it finally comes to an end but before we get to the end of this story, let us drive you back to stories of some of our former editors.
They will do much of the talking while we lay back, sip on that coke, sieve through the good and bad but of course only give you the good. We all need that positivity ride. Ladies and gentlemen, shall we?
1. John Ivan Kisekka
Currently “Ivan from the digital Department” at Metropolitan Republic, an advertising Agency + Editor at Dignited.
He prefers to refer to himself as a Content Writer. Aren’t we saying too much already? Let Ivan do the talking.
TJ: So Ivan, we’ve done the introductions. Tell us about your experience at Techjaja . How was it?
Ivan: It was good. I learnt a lot as a person. Working with Remmie was a great experience. My passion for tech had gotten a new platform and I loved every day I spent as a Techjaja
TJ: Any lessons?
Ivan: Hard work is rewarded. Following preset standards and core values.
TJ: One for our readers
Ivan: Techjaja is one of the best tech blogs in Uganda. And definitely one to keep an eye on if you are a tech person.
Ivan wasn’t alone, we also had a sit down with Pius Enywaru.
2. Pius Enywaru
Goes by the name Payo, first of his kind and last of his name. Currently the Comms lead at Pollicy, A Civic Tech Organisation + Current Editor at Guru8
TJ: What was your title on your office door at Techjaja?
Pius: I am not all about titles, I was just a Writer (He chooses to be humble in his answer)
TJ: Wow! We like but tell our Readers about your Techjaja journey
Pius: When I wanted to start my blogging career, an opportunity from Techjaja came knocking and I was welcomed with open arms. The team at Techjaja was really awesome and challenging to be part of. Being part of the jajas was such a thrilling thing, you had to stand out, write extensively, research and also be ‘boujee’.
Every when it was time for the #TechjajaGeekWeek, I always looked forward to the thrilling blogs we put out collectively as a team.
TJ: Boujee like Bad & Boujee or there is something else that you learnt. Something worth telling our readers
Pius: I mastered my craft of writing about tech, I learnt how to edit, I learnt how to review gadgets at Techjaja and my first ever digital newsroom was at Techjaja. Such a great vibe being there.
TJ: Payo before we let you go, the readers could still anxious if you still have any words for them
Pius: Techjaja always has edge-cutting news, the reviews are well baked and on any day, you’ll get a different angle that is mind-boggling. Informative, exciting and authoritative in the tech industry.
Onto the next one
3. Viola Nuwaha
Teaching Assistant at Carnegie Mellon University Africa
TJ: Our social media misses you but we heard you’re making Uganda proud out there. Its encouraging given there aren’t so many girls doing what you do. Would it be safe if we called you a bigwig?
Viola: Hehe, what I do is not big wig but I teach at Carnegie Mellon University Africa.
TJ: Just curious, how was your experience at Techjaja like?
Viola: Techjaja allowed me to explore my editing, writing and social media management skills. While we had our designated roles, it was easy to wear as many hats as possible while being guided by the experts on how to be good in whichever hat one chose to wear.
TJ: Wear many hats, social Media, writing Anything you could have missed or any other thing you learnt while at Techjaja?
Viola: My most fond memories were the Techjaja geek week. It was an adrenaline filled week where everyone put their best nerd foot forward. The editors, sub-editors, developers and graphics teams allowed for their threads to be used to weave a beautiful Techjaja week tapestry.
TJ: GeekWeek is getting a lot of mentions and its sort of what we are doing now but packaged in a different way. So what should our readers expect?
Viola: As a reader, this is the one technology news site where Technology Jargon won’t be as complicated and nerdy as possible. The editors try to use succinct language to deliver relevant technology information that is understandable and beneficial to all audiences.
TJ: We couldn’t have said it any better. Thank you Viola
4. Ronald Kasagga
Currently a Software Development Consultant
TJ: Most people could not be knowing that you once filled the role of Editor but tell them how this experience felt
Ronald: It was exciting and rewarding in unique ways. I’ve always been intrigued by tech everything right from the early days of my life, and was mildly satisfied by shows like BBC click, blogs like CNET, but could never find credible local content that would talk about stuff that’s actually in my reach. You can imagine the thrill that crawled all ways all over my spine when Roger offered me an opportunity to create such content. And I went on to meet amazing people, funny and interest bunch of them, cut from the same rock of this hunger. We produced really good content and our readers were very supportive in the way of motivating us and helping us improve. It was always fun.
TJ: That was quite a long one. Let us wait for what comes up next. Any Particular learnings Ronald?
Ronald: Creating content that’s informative and yet easy to consume is hard work. Same goes for original investigative journalism. And yet, remembering how hard it is for the version of you in some alternate universe that needs it but can’t get it is a reward in itself for that extra effort inching your work towards perfection. Remember that, do it for the readers.
TJ: What do you want us to tell our readers that this message came from Ronald
Ronald: Each and every one of you is our every thought as we reach out to the far corners of our minds to best express and hopefully etch the knowledge, understanding and feelings we have into your minds. In the same way, we yearn to learn from you, hear and feel your thoughts on the things we talk about and how we do it. We enjoy learning from each other here at TechJaja, so we definitely look forward to learning from you.
Editor’s Note: These interviews have been slightly edited for clarity/ to befit the narrative.
