Shazam is a really interesting app, and the various updates that come to it make it even more appealing to its users. From helping one easily identify the songs playing, the Apple-owned app has been upgraded to now detect and let you know which songs you are listening to through headphones off your Android phone or tablet.
Last year saw the introduction of a new feature called Pop-up, which allowed the Shazam app to identify songs being played on the device itself. The challenge, however, was that one had to unplug or disconnect your headphones for the app to hear the music as it played through the device’s own speakers.
Now, in the latest update to the Android app version, the Pop-up feature has been upgraded and granted access access to your phone’s internal audio stream so as to swiftly identify music even when you’re wearing headphones, including wireless devices connected over Bluetooth. The feature is not enabled by default, and thus you have to turn it on in Shazam’s settings menu.

If you use the Android app, an update will let you see an alert at the bottom of the main screen. This tells you that you can now detect any of the music playing off your phone even if you have your headphones in. There is a small headphones icon which appears next to “Tap to Shazam” when you plug your headphones into your phone, and this disappears when you plug them out.
So, if you want to discover a new song in a public place, you got the solution right away. What is not clear is when the feature will come to the iOS app but we shall keep you up to date as soon as it does.
