Like we had told you earlier, Google plans to shut down the consumer version of Google+ over the next 10 months. The company cited “low usage and engagement” and quick lasting of Google+ user sessions.

The company plans to keep the service alive for only enterprise customers who use it to facilitate conversation among co-workers and new features will be rolled out to the effect.

If you had a Google+ profile, and are not among the enterprise customers, then you are probably one of those that were less engaged.

You should have deleted your Google+ profile yesterday, or even before Google realized the dormancy, but if you have not yet done so – we are here to guide you on how to.

1. Download your data

It all begins with taking your data before you go. If at all you shared photos and any other files on your Google+ account, go to  the Google Takeout Data download page, and select Google+.

Tap Next and go on to choose how you want your archive to be sent. It can be through a download link via email, it can be placed in your Google Drive or it can be uploaded to the cloud on Dropbox or Microsoft OneDrive.

2. Delete your Google+ profile

Sign in to your Google account, go to the downgrade page here, and follow the instructions to delete your Google+ profile. In the case that instead of the downgrade page, you see an upgrade page, then your Google+ profile is already deleted or have never had one.

You should also think of disabling or deleting the Google+ app. Whereas Google states that it can’t be deleted on some Android devices, you can disable it on any Android device. To do so, open your Android device’s Settings app, choose Apps & notifications, select Google+ and then tap Uninstall or Disable.

This way, you will be satisfied that your data is in secure hands and that your profile is no longer existent at the time that Google+ is put to rest by April 2019.
