Choosing New Vs. Refurbished: How To Decide Which Server Is Right For You

There is always a bit of excitement when shopping for a new piece of equipment, especially if you’re expanding your new business or upgrading your old one. However, buying a server to help you with your business operations, for instance, is a serious task.

It can be fun to look at how far technology has progressed and marvel at the performance output these devices can produce, but they can often be quite pricey. However, that does not mean that there won’t be options for you. There are millions of servers that you can procure at a fair price and even get your hands on top-of-the-line equipment without breaking the bank, thanks to refurbishers.

Refurbished servers are extremely popular as they offer the same level of performance as brand new ones of the same make and model, but with a huge advantage, and that is a lower price.

And since they have become so popular, let’s explore whether you should opt for a brand-new or refurbished device below.

    Refurbished Vs New Servers

When deciding between purchasing a new or refurbished server, there are several factors to consider. For instance, if affordability is paramount, refurbished servers may be a better option as they are often sold at lower prices than their newer counterparts since they were previously owned.

On the other hand, new servers come with manufacturer warranties that can offer greater peace of mind and reliability assurance. However, reputable vendors specializing in their craft will also provide you with a warranty, although it might not be as long as the one you might receive for a brand-new device.

Warranties aside, when two devices of the same make and model are compared, one refurbished and one brand new, you will see no difference in performance whatsoever. So, it’s plain to see why refurbished equipment has become so popular.

But before you make a purchase, you better look into the top vendors that offer high-quality servers. Most often, you can find quality Dell, HP, or Lenovo products but for a lower price. For instance, instead of purchasing a brand-new Dell server that comes with a price sticker, you can get the same performance levels out of a used Dell server that was treated, cleaned, and tested by a reputable vendor but for a lower cost.

Carefully review your options, and if you can get your hands on devices that have been thoroughly refurbished, you should not hesitate to go for that option. Buying brand-new hardware will not only be pricey but it will cost you even more when you’ll need to do repairs.

Selecting The Right Piece Of Equipment

The server you procure should reflect your business needs. There is no need to obtain a powerhouse of a server if you only plan to connect 2-3 users to the device. You only need a server that will be reliable, enable you to work efficiently, and carry out operations on a daily basis without worrying too much about its upkeep.

In addition, make sure you find adequate storage space for your servers. Avoid setting up your system in a room with high temperatures, as the device can overheat and shut down or in some cases, sustain irreversible damage.

    Sometimes It’s Better To Wait

New technologies are always spawning, and sometimes, it’s better to wait instead of spending all your money on new equipment. There are two major reasons for this. Let’s say that a new generation of servers ships; the performance boost is simply too drastic to ignore. On the other hand, when new products are released, the prices of old-generation tech drastically drop, making them more financially accessible for all businesses and individuals.

    Bottom Line

Server equipment is crucial if you want to run multiple applications at once, store and send data, or simply connect multiple users and set up a network. However, obtaining them is the hard part. Technology nowadays comes with a price, but luckily, refurbished servers are a great option that enables you to enjoy high-performance computer hardware at an accessible price point.
