    Chipper Cash celebrates 3 years of chipping away money transfer bottlenecks

    Founded in 2018 by a Ugandan, Ham Serunjogi, and a Ghanaian Maijid Moujaled, Chipper Cash is a peer to peer payments platform best known for its free local transfers at the best rates and instant settlement for cross-border payments across 7 African countries including Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Ghana, Nigeria and South Africa where it operates and most recently UK inbound transfers. Chipper Cash also vends local and international airtime at a 2% discount as well as data and crypto trading in Bitcoin (BTC) and Etherium (ETH).

    Chipper Cash, now in its third year, has grown to over 3.5 million users across its operating countries. To celebrate its 3rd year in operation, the mobile payments giant is running limited-time promos where users can purchase airtime at a 5% discount and data with a 20% cashback on each first purchase until Friday 9th July 2021.

    The company already attained the prestigious unicorn status of being valued at over $1B after securing its Series C funding in a round led by SVB Capital in June 2021. This follows earlier rounds including a $30M series B led by Ribbit Capital in November 2020 and a $6M round led by Deciens Capital & Raptor Group plus a seed funding of $2.4M still from Deciens Capital in May 2019. 

    The future looks bright for Chipper customers with big plans on the electronic payments front, we’re reliably informed that the introduction of bill payments like Umeme and NWSC is in the offing, plus Visa virtual cards (these are already available in markets like Nigeria), stock trading, and a merchant solution called Chipper Checkout.
