Apple initially unveiled the Vision Pro headset during its Worldwide Developer Conference in June last year. Priced at $3,499, the Vision Pro offers a 4K display for each eye and allows users to seamlessly switch between augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) using a dial located on the side of the headset. The device is powered by a dual-chip setup, featuring Apple’s in-house M2 chip and the new R1 chip, which is specifically designed for processing data from the built-in sensors, cameras, and microphones.

One notable feature of the Vision Pro is its ability to navigate the interface without the need for a controller. Users can utilize eye, head, and hand tracking to interact with the device. Apple has showcased the headset as a means to interact with familiar apps like FaceTime, Photos, and Movies, as well as to view spatial videos recorded with the iPhone 15 Pro. The company has also mentioned that users will have access to over 150 3D titles through the Apple TV app.

The seamless integration with existing apps is made possible by visionOS, Apple’s new operating system designed specifically for the Vision Pro headset. Apple claims that visionOS works seamlessly with most iPhone and iPad apps, eliminating the need for developers to make any additional adjustments.

Based on the demos of the headset, the Vision Pro offers an impressive and immersive experience. However, the main question remains: will users be willing to invest $3,499 in this high-end device? With its advanced features, seamless integration with familiar apps, and a wide range of 3D titles available, the Vision Pro certainly presents a compelling option for tech enthusiasts and those looking to explore the world of augmented and virtual reality.
