As part of their corporate social responsibility, the Bhati based company Airtel Uganda is to set to embark on a journey to provide free unlimited 4G wireless internet to 19 public libraries across the country to enhance the culture of learning and getting reading materials from the internet.
The initiative started off yesterday when the company took to social media to announce the launch to connect Jinja Public Library on Free WiFi internet powered by the smartphone network. This is one of the beneficiaries of the program and we expect to see 18 more public libraries connected to the fast and reliable free 4G internet.

What does it mean for the community ?
According to the official website of the National library of Uganda, there is a network of 46 public libraries and over 100 community libraries across the country as of 2017. Airtel’s move to provide about 42% of the total public libraries in the country with internet is welcome with both hands and might actually be an incentive to entice more people to frequent the once forgotten treasures in the digital age.
A lot of things has been achieved by brand over the past years, from rolling out a nationwide 4G coverage to having one of the most affordable services in the industry. The company has stayed true to its core of trying to better the lives of its customers and this effort to bring the internet closer to the birthplace of knowledge is a huge milestone.
