Airtel Uganda raided by Immigrations: Rounds up Indian and Chinese ‘experts’

It’s not a good year to work as a telecom expert in Uganda. According to our reliable sources, the Ministry of Internal Affairs has today rounded up several Airtel Uganda Indian and Chinese foreign workers at their offices in Bugolobi. This is a move to crackdown on foreign workers who came to work in Uganda in the name of being experts yet they really add no value and are doing jobs that Ugandans can also do.

According to eyewitnesses, the foreign workers were all gathered in a boardroom within the building and were all later whisked off in a van to the immigration’s offices for further questioning. We, however, wonder if immigration considers steep measures like deporting those who don’t meet the criteria.

This comes after the immigrations recently carried out a similar exercise at Orange Uganda now under Africell and took several Lebanese experts in for questioning about the legality of their stay and whether they have permits that allow them to work in the country.
