    Airtel removes some data bundles from being shared using Tugabane

    When Airtel Uganda launched the Tugabane service in April 2015, it was a welcome gesture as it permitted subscribers to share their data as some form of a long-distance WiFi hotspot. In principle, the service enables users to share mobile internet with others, as customers use one line to surf the internet on their smartphones and they don’t need to be in the same place. Airtel Uganda’s Tugabane is a local dialect that means let’s share.

    Over the years since Tungabene was launched the company has unveiled several data bundles allowing users to share data irrespective of the data bundles. Just a few days after the government introduced the new 12% tax, Airtel has made some changes to how this product will be used.

    With effect from 21st July 2021, the Tugabane service will no longer be available on the following data bundles;

    1. Freaky Friday
    2. Freaky Holiday
    3. Daily Data bundles

    There is no clear reason given by the telecom company why this decision was taken, but they insist that subscribers can gift Freaky Friday, Freaky Holidays, and Daily Data bundles by dialing *175#.
