    Airtel apologizes for wrong time settings sent to its customers

    Some Airtel Uganda customers woke up today morning only to find their phones displaying wrong time settings–well especially those who knowingly or accidentally allow their phone’s time to be synchronized with the network’s time. Well, no one in your family was pulling a prank on you and changed your time settings while you were asleep. It actually happened, and the company has come out to apologize to some of its customers who experienced a time synchronization error on their phones. As expected, the change in time only affected our customers whose phone date and time is set by the network. This was due to a minor synchronization application process error on their Network Time Protocol server.

    Airtel Money platform secure

    According to the carrier, the error has since been resolved and the time corrected. This issue further sparked off rumors that the company’s mobile money money platform had been hacked. In a statement to this blog, the telco a also took the opportunity to assure its customers that at no time was the Airtel money platform compromised by the change in time as purported by a hoax message sent to their subscribers yesterday evening. They said ;

    “As the smartphone network, we would like to assure our customers and the general public that the Airtel money platform remains the most secure and reliable mobile money service in Uganda.”
