Following the Covid pandemic in Uganda, tomorrow 31st March, all Government Ministries, Agencies and Departments will attend a meeting to discuss the government wide effort in combating Covid19. Large gatherings have been linked with aiding the spread of Covid19, as such, Government of Uganda will be holding meetings through video conferencing facilities.
This comes days after we reported how the ICT ministry was utilizing social distancing to hold meetings in favor of technology in such times when the spread of the covid is growing. The tweet posted by the ministry on March 26th depicted their teams holding outside meetings that turned out to be cringeworthy for IT pundits and showed how backward the ICT and National guidance Ministry was in terms of adopting basic technologies. Tweeps responded with messages expressing their disappointment in the ministry for not harnessing the power of video calling technology given the government has invested in a National Fiber backbone with internet currently managed by NITA Uganda.

With support from the United Nations Development Fund (UNDP) and set up by the NITA-U, a Zoom video conferencing call has been prepared and it will enable Government of Uganda will hold its first meeting using online conferencing technology today, with GOU staff expected to adapt the digital tools to allow the Government’s various Ministries and Agencies to resume their regular meeting schedule.
The meeting will bed chaired by the Office of the Prime Minister, and will be used to discuss how Governemnt can maintain service provision, safely, during the Covid Pandemic. Also during the meeting, the various agencies will share updates on the various mitigations being undertaken to curb the spread of Covid.
