    A list of Home Internet Bundles You Should Checkout

    -

    The lockdown has brought upon us many things and one of them is changing the way we work, live, consume media, and data. Previously most people would load on data bundles on the go and pretty much use office internet for the most part of the day.  Now with confinement at home, usage patterns have changed and so have the data demands. You find that people now need data for work, entertainment, social networking, and other demands but in large quantities so mobile bundles just don’t cut it.

    It is for this reason we’ve looked at all current market offerings and come up with the list from different internet service providers.
    We highly recommend a fixed internet connection for stability as mobile network connections have over and again dropped in terms of quality due to congestion.

    In no particular order, we are hopeful that the home internet packages below will most likely sort your internet needs at home or wherever you might be. Some have installation fees attached but with that out of the way, they could be worth a try.

    Airtel Broadband/WiFi Bundles

    Airtel recently launched its broadband service and in a similar manner launched specific bundles to go with it. What differentiates these bundles from the rest are their large volumes for the price thus the term WiFi bundles. These are not only limited to its broadband service but so long as you have a router at home with an Airtel SIM in it, you can still enjoy the experience.

    Should you choose to go the broadband route, you’ll have to part with an installation fee of UGX 280,000 and this will come with 51GB of data valid for 30 days on top of an outdoor micro-wave unit and a router. Airtel guarantees speeds of at least 10Mbps over 4G but coverage is only limited to greater Kampala as of this writing.

    MTN WakaNet

    MTN also has different offerings but what stood out for us are the WakaNet bundles. Just like Airtel Broadband, these are limited in reach to areas of Kyanja, Kiwatule, Kira & Naalya and are specifically for home use.

    An installation fee of UGX 245,000 comes with a 4G router and a bundle of 35GB. Other bundles are as below;

    Roke Plus Home Internet Bundles

    Roke Telkom is like the OG of fixed internet amongst the current players. Its prized bundles are Roke Plus promising free internet in “offpeak hours” from 7 pm to 7 am, over the weekend, and on public holidays. Normal charges apply in peak hours between 7 am – 7 pm.

    Their installation fee is UGX 500,000 but is now discounted at UGX 300,000 during the COVID-19 crisis and depending on location, delivery can be via fiber or micro-wave. Roke promises speeds of at least 5Mbps for each of the following Roke Plus bundles.

    BundleVolumePrice (UGX)Validity
    Roke Classic Plus40GB100,00030 Days
    Roke Unlimited Plus100GB250,00030 Days
    Roke Mega Plus300GB650,00030 Days

    Smile True Unlimited Bundles

    Surprisingly, Smile has one of the best 4G networks but hardly gets any mention when it comes to data discussions. Over time, it has re-invented itself with some of the most flexible bundles on the market but these are our recommendations. These are delivered wirelessly via MiFis and routers.

    BundleVolumePrice (UGX)Validity
    True UnlimitedUnlimited with speeds of up to 2Mbps63,0007 Days
    True UnlimitedUnlimited with speeds of up to 3Mbps224,00030 Days

    Zuku Fiber

    The beauty about Zuku is its triple-play offering that combines telephony, internet & TV over fiber but you can as well opt for the internet only. Their coverage is however limited to Naguru, parts of Ntinda, Bukoto, Mutungo, and Luzira but expansion plans are underway to add other surrounding areas. Installation is free so long as you’re within the aforementioned areas and their bundles are as below;

    BundleVolumePrice (UGX)Validity
    BasicUnlimited with speeds of up to 10Mbps147,90030 Days
    PreferredUnlimited with speeds of up to 20Mbps197,90030 Days

    All the Zuku packages come with free Zuku to Zuku calls and 56+ TV channels. In case you want to up the speeds, Zuku Fiber offers its Premium & Advanced packages offering 40mbos & 100mbps at UGX 297,900 and UGX 497,900 respectively.

    Liquid Home Internet Bundles

    Liquid Telecom has the cheapest bundles of all the listed players but not without caveats.  Basically, their internet service is unlimited and what they regulate are the speeds much like Zuku.

    However, they have a long waiting list so getting their service doesn’t come easy. A few colleagues that have it installed attest that the experience is good.

    Installation for the service is also free and this is via fiber (depending on location) and micro-wave. Below are their bundles.

    BundleVolumePrice (UGX)Validity
    BronzeUnlimited with speeds of up to 10Mbps119,90030 Days
    SilverUnlimited with speeds of up to 20Mbps169,90030 Days

    Liquid also has the Gold and Platinum packages with increased speeds of 40Mbps & 100Mbps at UGX 269,000 and  UGX 469,000 respectively.

    Let us know of any suitable data bundles or player we could have left out in the comments.
