A list of all smartphones that will no longer use WhatsApp (2023)

It is no surprise that as smartphones get older, apps like WhatsApp no longer support them, as the company prioritizes newer devices. There is a list of over 49 devices where the messaging app would no longer work starting 31st December 2023. This article contains the complete list.

WhatsApp has to stop supporting some smartphones as they may have slower RAM or other hardware requirements and may not be able to meet the latest releases and updates. In most cases, older handsets can no longer keep up. So, for instance, on iPhones running iOS 10 and iOS 11, the widely used messaging app stopped functioning on October 24. Also, this time, only two iPhones will lose access to the messaging app alongside many old Android smartphones.

All the smartphones that will no longer have support for WhatsApp were made a few years ago, so there’s a good chance you’ve since upgraded to a newer model. However, in Africa it’s normal to be people to buy second-hand phones or “UK-used” phones which are pretty old. Sadly, if yours is on the list, WhatsApp will no longer be available starting December 31st. So to continue using WhatsApp, owners of the phone below will have to buy newer devices.

Below is a list of the 49 smartphones that will be impacted and will no longer have support for WhatsApp.
