Benue Capital, a driving force in Uganda’s startup ecosystem, has teamed up with Turkish Airlines to give the winner of the Startup World Cup Uganda Regional Finale a complimentary round-trip ticket to San Francisco. There, on October 17, 2025, the champion will represent Uganda at the Startup World Cup Grand Finale, competing against the best startups from over 70 countries.

This is a passport to global recognition, investor connections, and transformative opportunities.

For Uganda’s entrepreneurs, this partnership is a game-changer. Breaking into the global market is no small feat, especially when travel costs and international exposure are often out of reach. By removing this barrier, Turkish Airlines and Benue Capital are empowering Uganda’s brightest minds to showcase their innovations to the world.

    Connecting Dreams to Destinations

Turkish Airlines, founded in 1933 as a modest operation with just five aircraft, has soared to become a global aviation titan. Today, its fleet of 491 passenger and cargo planes serves 353 destinations across 131 countries—more than any other airline. Named Europe’s Best Airline by Skytrax for the 10th time in 2025, Turkish Airlines is synonymous with excellence, innovation, and global connectivity.

“As Turkish Airlines, it’s a great honour to be part of the Startup World Cup, a platform that celebrates innovation, resilience, and the bold spirit of entrepreneurship,” says Saidi Muhammad Bagoth, Uganda Country Manager for Turkish Airlines. “Our global reach is not just about flights; it’s about connecting people, cultures, and ideas. Just as startups bridge innovation with real-world solutions, we bridge nations with opportunity.”

This partnership reflects Turkish Airlines’ commitment to fostering innovation beyond the skies. By supporting Uganda’s startup ecosystem, the airline is helping to bridge the gap between local talent and global markets.

The Startup World Cup: A Global Arena for Innovation

Organized by Pegasus Tech Ventures, the Startup World Cup is the world’s largest startup pitch competition, connecting vibrant entrepreneurial ecosystems across the globe. From regional showdowns to the high-stakes Grand Finale in San Francisco, the competition draws thousands of investors, corporate executives, and media representatives. The prize? A life-changing $1 million investment and unparalleled exposure.

For startups, the journey begins at the regional level, where innovators pitch their ideas to local judges. The regional champions then advance to the global stage, presenting to a panel of top investors and tech leaders. This platform has already transformed startup ecosystems in countries like Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Egypt, and Rwanda. Now, for the first time, Uganda joins the ranks, with its regional finale set to take place at Hive Colab in Kampala.

Applications for the Uganda Regional Finale opened on July 5, 2025, and will close on August 20, 2025. The top 10 competitors will be revealed on August 25, setting the stage for a thrilling showdown. The winner will not only earn a trip to San Francisco but also carry the hopes of Uganda’s startup community onto the global stage.

    Why This Matters for Uganda

Uganda’s startup scene is buzzing with potential, but many entrepreneurs face significant hurdles in gaining international visibility. Limited access to funding, global networks, and travel opportunities often keep even the most innovative ideas confined to local markets. This partnership between Benue Capital and Turkish Airlines changes that narrative.

“This partnership sends a powerful signal that Uganda is poised to emerge as a significant player in the global innovation and entrepreneurship landscape,” says Jonatahn Ntege Lubwama, Investment Principal at Benue Capital. “It inspires confidence and ambition among young entrepreneurs determined to make meaningful contributions both nationally and internationally.”

By sponsoring the trip to San Francisco, Turkish Airlines and Benue Capital are elevating Uganda’s entire innovation ecosystem. The opportunity to pitch at the Startup World Cup Grand Finale could lead to game-changing partnerships, investments, and growth, positioning Uganda as a rising star in East Africa’s startup scene.
