Best practices for safe cashless transactions on Equity Bank Uganda platforms

As Uganda embraces a cashless economy, Equity Bank Uganda’s debit and credit cards, integrated with the Eazzy Banking App and Equity Online, offer a secure and convenient way to pay for goods and services. However, with digital payments on the rise, safeguarding your transactions is crucial to avoid fraud and cyber threats.

By adopting best practices, you can confidently use Equity Bank’s platforms for safe cashless transactions in your daily life.

To ensure security, always use trusted platforms for transactions. Shop on reputable websites with “https://” and a padlock icon, and access your account only through Equity Bank’s official Mobile App (available on Google Play Store or App Store) or Equity Online portal.

Avoid unofficial apps or links from unverified emails claiming to be from Equity Bank, as phishing scams are prevalent in Uganda. Keeping your card secure is equally important—store it safely and never lend it to anyone, even trusted individuals.

When using ATMs or POS terminals, check for tampering, such as loose card slots, and cover the keypad while entering your PIN to prevent shoulder surfing or hidden cameras.

Enhance your account’s security by enabling two-factor authentication (2FA) in the Equity Mobile app, which requires a one-time password (OTP) for online transactions. Regularly update your PIN, ensuring it’s unique and not shared across accounts.

Stay vigilant by setting up transaction alerts in the app’s “Notifications” section to receive SMS or email notifications for purchases above, say, UGX 50,000. This helps you spot unauthorized activity quickly.

Reviewing your monthly statements via the app or Equity Online is another key habit—check for discrepancies and report issues to Equity Bank’s customer care at 0800 221 221 immediately. If you suspect fraud, freeze your card instantly through the app.

Finally, stay informed about phishing tactics. Never share your card details or OTPs via phone or email, and verify suspicious communications directly with Equity Bank. By following these practices, you can enjoy the convenience of cashless payments while keeping your finances secure in Uganda’s growing digital economy.
