Most of us are beneficiaries of Google products in one or another given most of its products and services, especially apps are free. There is however one particular area Google receives no props for but is actually strong, which begs us to ask, did you know that Google can actually act as your password manager and help you keep all the passwords you use on your phone and PC secure?
Well, it can help you do that with its Google Chrome extension launched early this year, which helps users identify if their accounts have been compromised, prompt them to change the password accordingly.
It has now gone ahead and announced new security features via its Safety & Security blog to boost the safety of its Google-owned services and products, including password security.
As part of the feature, Google has added the password checkup feature right into the Google Account, which scans all the saved passwords and recommends the necessary actions.
This is how it works:
Make sure that chrome Sync is active to make this feature work and yes you need to be connected to the internet since it doesn’t work offline.
- Open “https://myaccount.google.com” in the browser.
- Log in using Google Account, if not signed-in already.
- Navigate to ‘Security’ section
- Scroll down and look for the option “Signing in to other sites” at the bottom of the page
- Choose the “Password Manager” option
- At the next page, click on Get Started to activate this service
The page will show the list of all the saved passwords in that particular Google Account where you can manage all the passwords for the sites linked with your Gmail.
You can sign out of sites that you no longer deem important or that you have lost track of. This is especially helpful because most of us sign in to third-party applications using our Gmail details and at some point, we stop using these apps minus revoking their access which is very insecure.
With this new option, you can now to sign out of these apps or sites under the chrome password manager.
