Samsung is launching the Galaxy M series to counter Chinese rivals

The competition for market share in the smartphone industry is far from death. When we thought some regions belonged to specific brands, we were definitely wrong. Samsung has just confirmed the launch of the Galaxy M series to compete with Chinese rivals.

We have known Samsung to surface much more in the West, where premium devices get the highest market with quite less attention given to the mid-range and entry-level smartphones.

This leaves the East and emerging markets to the likes of Xiaomi and Transsion devices like Tecno, Infinix, itel, and the likes who offer affordable devices with high end specifications.

In Uganda for instance, you will find a hard time locating a Samsung phone outlet or store, and if you get one, the prices might not be as favourable; but the Tecno shops are available almost every after ten or so metres on Kampala streets with pick-and-go price tags.

To this, Samsung is responding and, has confirmed that the mid-range Galaxy M series will be launched on January 28 in India, specifically to fill up the gap that could have been left by Xiaomi. It is probably from here that the brand will spread out to other markets.

The smartphones have been targeted at young millennials while featuring exclusive displays, cameras, batteries, and processors. The series is likely to include three phones – Galaxy M10, Galaxy M20, and the Galaxy M30.

The specs are not yet public, but a listing on Amazon reveals a tear-drop notch – the first for a Samsung device, dual rear cameras, a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, USB-C, and a headphone jack.

A report by Reuters also indicated that the phones would cost between about $140 to $280, and will have large batteries and quick charging.

This launch will come less than a month to the Galaxy Unpacked event in Barcelona’s Mobile World Congress this February, where Samsung will launch this year’s Galaxy S10. It as well comes a month after the manufacturer introduced the Infinity O display to the Galaxy A8.
