The Phones and apps that trended at Blankets and Wine

Blankets & Wine is always headlined by the likes of House of DJs, Roke Telkom, Beverages companies here and there among others. The experience was no different at last weekend’s Blankets & Wine Edition with the notable ingredient being Fik Fameika and South African DJ/Producer, Heavy K.

We are no entertainment blog so let’s get to what we know most, tech! While the sponsors made their presence known like blanketing the whole grounds with Roke Telkom’s super fast WiFi access, one notable brand presence was Apple’s iPhone that was complemented by the yellow and ghost app well known as SnapChat.

These were not on the sponsorship list but their visibility was almost unmatched, with free advertisement everywhere and this kept us thinking, why don’t the two come on board?

In every edition of Blankets and Wine, Apple’s iPhone seems to be the de-facto smartphone of choice with many revelers holding one and SnapChat making a comeback as the default camera app of choice to ‘snap’ (as the saying goes) micro moments of the event in both still and motion pictures. Seeing someone waving around their smartphones in their hands taking snaps is at least a common sight at this social event.

What makes SnapChat even more interesting is it’s fusion of Augmented Reality in many of its lenses that saw money revelers make goofy faces in front of their iPhones. We should perhaps call Blankets & Wine is an iPhone club of sorts because the event seems to love it.

Not to say other smartphone brands were absent given Samsung phones like the S8, S9, S7 were within vicinity and the likes of Tecno’s CX, also made inroads to the event to make this the best smartphone camera affair, given the most visible of all smartphones derive pride from having some of the best pocket cameras and maybe, just maybe, command a high price tag.

While Apple and Snap are getting every ounce of free publicity at most  editions of Blankets and Wine, perhaps they should look at joining on as partners given the audience seems to obsessed about them.
