    Kenya’s new government to keep free student laptop promise

    As of next year the newly elected president Kenyan president Uhuru Kenyatta would introduce legislation to ensure each child entering standard one next year is given a free laptop. This move is expected to see Kenya’s digital agenda taken a notch higher.

    I intend to fulfill the promises in the Jubilee Manifesto as endorsed by Kenyans…My government will deliver on its promise of free laptops next year. Our vision is to have the laptops assembled locally,” said President Kenyatta in his inaugural speech to parliament and senate.

    This initiative is done in order to up Kenya for a digital gyration and making it a knowledge-driven economy come the year 2030. Hope the rest of the East African countries will follow suit. You can hit the video below
