    Vodafone Uganda to hit Uganda’s Telecom scene soon with a bang

    Vodafone Uganda has today announced that it will join the Uganda’s telecom market in partnership with Afrimax Group . This means Afrimax will operate in Uganda under the Vodafone brand name. The British based company is currently deploying the latest wireless broadband technology based on 4G LTE TDD technology to enable businesses, households and individuals to access high-speed internet services.

    With three mobile operators in Uganda offering 4G LTE broadband services viz, MTN Uganda, Orange Uganda and Smile Uganda, Vodafone joins the big boys with a bang.  In Uganda they will operate as an ISP (Internet Service Provider) specializing in both voice and data services. When a Vodafone user  initiates a voice call inside the range of a 4G network, they will use CSFB (Circuit switched fallback) to rapidly “fall back” to the available UTL 2/3G network  to complete the call. Vodafone and Afrimax will work together to provide Afrimax customers with an enhanced roaming experience.

    According to Vodafone Partner Markets Chief Executive Stefano Gastaut who had this to say about the Ugandan market:

    “Uganda is an attractive market and we are delighted to welcome Afrimax to our successful Partner Markets community, which already operates in more than fifty countries. We look forward to exploring the potential for further Partner Market agreements in sub-Saharan Africa with Afrimax, under our framework cooperation agreement. “

    In Africa,Vodafone also operates in South Africa, Tanzania, Democratic Republic of Congo, Lesotho and Mozambique under the Vodacom brand. As a preferred partner, Vodafone Uganda benefit from Vodafone’s scale as the largest international voice carrier with 55 billion annual international minutes by working with its Carrier Services division, gaining access to Vodafone’s competitive cost base for its customers’ international calls.
