The competition is tight, and if you can’t become what the masses want, join in and embrace their choice. This is exactly what Microsoft is doing of late.
The company recently announced the end of support for Windows 7, a system that many loved too much and some still use to date, and now there is another issue in form of a warning about Internet Explorer web browser.
In a blog post titled ‘The perils of using Internet Explorer as your default browser’, Microsoft has warned that using Internet Explorer is extremely dangerous and the company even refers to it as “no longer a web browser”.
You see, Internet Explorer is a compatibility solution. We’re not supporting new web standards for it and, while many sites work fine, developers by and large just aren’t testing for Internet Explorer these days. They’re testing on modern browsers.
Internet Explorer is popular among enterprises and organisations that use it to run legacy web applications, since it has been supporting them. However, by continuing to use it rather than any of the modern web browsers, these organisations are creating additional costs for themselves in the future.
While the blog post does not mention any alternatives to opt for, now is the time to make the switch from Internet Explorer to a modern browser before any regrets are made.
Microsoft is as well ending support for Windows 10 Mobile, and is suggesting that you should embrace an iPhone or Android handset soon enough – if you are still a loyal fan.
