    4 Ugandan startups shortlisted for Africa Moves Summit 2019

    Any person in the startup ecosystem looking for seed funding to scale their ideas knows the struggles and pain that comes with pitching to investors and getting the necessary deal for their business. Africa Moves Summit is an event for the development of Africa and dedicated to tech and innovation giving startups a chance to pitch to a global audience and raise investments to help change the dynamics of raising startup funds.

    They recently have announced a list of 100 startups across Africa that will be able to pitch to VCs and over 8,000 industry-leaders, investors and other tech lovers from around the world to help build meaningful connections around their ideas and products. The event is scheduled to start next week on Monday, June 17 to Friday 21st June 2019 in Tunis, the capital of Tunisia.

    The selection was carefully made from a pool of over 1,000 applications by a jury of more than 24 experts from various fields.

    From the pool of 100 startups invited to the Africa Moves Summit in Tunis, here is a list of four startups that will carry the Ugandan flag on that day.

    1. SESACO LIMITED Uganda, Food

    Sesaco is a family-owned company in Kampala that processes and packages several high protein soy maize and Miller flours in the country that has numerous nutritional benefits.

    2. SkoolDesk, Uganda, Software development/Cloud service

    Skooldesk is an innovative e-learning platform for young learners (Primary school children) that helps them improve test scores. The platform provides quality test questions in the four main subjects of  English, Math, Science and Social Studies (SST). Users of the platform are able to select tests from a plethora of questions by selecting a subject and class level. Upon completion of the test, the results are displayed to the user indicating the correct/wrong answers.

    3. Ugabus Limited, Uganda, Mobility/Transportation

    UgaBus is an integrated online bus ticketing portal in Uganda that brings together all bus transport operators across under a single window, thus facilitating users to plan their bus travel across East Africa.

    4. Green Charcoal Uganda, Uganda, Energy

    Green charcoal Uganda is a registered social and environmental enterprise organization whose aim is to promote biomass energy to help women source for other alternative energy rather than wood and charcoal. They use discarded palm kernels to extract the true value of otherwise wasted agricultural resources such as coffee husks, maize (corn) cob and rice husks to make a briquette.

    At the time of writing this article, we haven’t confirmed from the startups whether they will be traveling for the event or not but we want to wish them the best of luck and keep you posted about the latest development from the event.
