    UCC warns on counterfeit Free-To-Air Set top boxes on the Ugandan Market

    As the June 30th digital migration deadline draws near, it has come to UCC’s attention that there are several counterfeit Free-To-Air Set top boxes on the Ugandan Market. These devices have not been approved by the commission as they don’t appear anywhere on the UCC’s list of approved Free-To-Air Set top boxes providers. There are also illegal television broadcasters especially one called beIN Media Group P. O. Box 2323, Doha, QATAR and a number of vendors and facilities as listed below are importing, selling, distributing and broadcasting off beIN decoders. UCC warns the public that BeIN does not have broadcasting rights in Uganda and, therefore, broadcasting BeIN content is illegal.

    In exercise of its powers under Section 6 of the Uganda Communications Act 2013 and Clause 23 of the Regulations, the Commission has said they will not hesitate to carry out further enforcement action on all importers, vendors, retailers and distributors of non-type approved Set Top Boxes (STBs) and decoders. The UCC has immediately ordered a ban on the importation, sale and distribution of this equipment. The Public is advised not to purchase any decoders that does not bear the approval mark of the Commission.

    These are the illegal broadcasters, importers, sellers, exhibitors and distributors of Free-To-Air Set top boxes that you should not deal with :
