Kampala loves moving on two wheels and we’ve seen Taxi hailing services respond to this by launching Boda Boda services to ferry around riders. Uber, not probably the last on the list is quietly launching its UberBoda service and follows the likes of Taxify Boda, Mondo Ride among others that also have Boda Boda hailing services infused in their apps.

This turns Uber in Uganda into a 2 in 1 service where riders can either hail an UberX, the original option they launched with or an UberBoda in case they prefer a boda to a cab.

For now, Uber is in test phases of the service but it will eventually venture into food deliveries over time, according to a person privy to the matter.

Recently swarms of boda bodas were seen registering at the industrial area based Uber offices, drawing speculation that indeed Uber is yet to launch a boda service.

UberBodaAs the industry is embracing boda bodas, it should be noted that Uber has a similar service called UberMoto in countries like India, Vietnam and Indonesia among others clogged with high traffic jams. These counties have a culture of using motorcycles mostly than cars.

Similarly as cars increase on Ugandan roads, moving around on 4 wheels becomes difficult as roads become hard to navigate necessitating the need for options like Boda Bodas. Uber was missing in this area and this launch bridges that gap.
