Facebook, Messenger, and, WhatsApp were the top 3 apps for the worldwide downloads on phones combined in the second quarter of 2019. WhatsApp had the most monthly active users combined on both iOS and Android devices
The report is according to mobile data company App Annie which looked at the worldwide downloads and users spending in the Q2 of 2019. The report showed that worldwide, users downloaded over 30.3 billion apps in Q2 2019, with social media apps dominating the top downloads chart for iOS and Android combined.
Google Play downloads grew 10% year over year in Q2 2019 to nearly 22.5 billion. Google Play led iOS in global downloads by 185%, up 15 percentage points from Q1 2019. While apps represented the majority of downloads across both stores, the percentage was higher on iOS at 70% compared to 60% on Google Play.

In terms of consumer spending, Tinder, Netflix and Tencent Video were the top three apps worldwide on iOS and Android combined in Q2. YouTube came in fifth.
Overall, global consumer spending was up 20% year-over-year on both iOS and Android in Q2.
Looking at non-gaming apps, App Annie said photo and video, entertainment and music apps were the biggest contributors to this year-over-year growth on iOS, while social, productivity and lifestyle apps were the biggest drivers of year-over-year spending growth on Android.
Finally, looking at monthly active users, App Annie found that social media apps once again dominated the downloads landscape highlighting that mobile games account for a hefty 75% of mobile spending, despite only accounting for 35% of mobile downloads.
